About Me

Hello Everyone,

My name is Lori; some of you may know me as ToysR4grownups.   I have been collecting and playing with Playmobil since 1983.   I was 12 years old then; my sisters, brother and I had the best time playing with these little figures.   Our grandparents gave our first set to us. It was a Sears special and included a Western fort, stage coach, covered wagon, 3 Indian tepees and of course all the horses, figures and accessories to go along with it.   My siblings and I had the best time building towns outside in the dirt with roads and mud houses. Playmobil soon became one of our favorite toys and I have been collecting ever since.

For many years all we had and wanted were the western sets. I remember the first time I saw the Victorian theme in a catalog and thought oh, I would love to have some of these sets. I began thinking how I could incorporate them into my western theme.   This was about the time I got married in 1993.  My wonderful husband Gordon, began to get some of the Victorian sets for me so now I was collecting two themes.  I had also sparked an interest for Playmobil in him as he is a fan of the Civil War Era and so he started collecting these sets in Playmobil.

As time went on I had to put a halt to buying Playmobil as bills and responsibility of adulthood took precedence.   We moved into a small house with no room to keep my Playmobil out so it was boxed up and stored. It wasn’t until 12 years later in August of 2007 that I finally unpacked all my sets again.   By this time we had 3 little girls and I unpacked the boxes and set up a small town for them to play with.

I had missed my Playmobil very much and it was like Christmas seeing it all again. I had forgotten what all I had and so it made everything new once again.   I felt like a kid in a toy store.   It was wonderful.   Four more years went by and my husband and I were now buying Playmobil sets for our girls as well as for both of us. Our basement was beginning to really fill up. We had tables in every space possible full of Playmobil.

My dream has always been to build a diorama of a western town so we could play in it.   Although I have not completed this dream it has never left me. I would see the wonderful train layouts and wish I could do something similar with Playmobil.   Little did I know that this was actually being done all over the world.  I was not an internet person back then but I wondered if there were others out there like me who were adults and still loved their Playmobil.   Did someone else find a way to make dioramas with Playmobil and if so maybe I could get some ideas?

For my birthday in August of 2011, I got the Playmobil Collectors Guide 2nd Edition and in the back was a list of Playmobil forums.  I didn’t even know what a forum was but thought I would check it out.  What I discovered changed the way I looked at my Playmobil from then on.   I was totally blown away! Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the possibilities of what I was seeing.  I was so excited, this is what I had been wanting to do and now I could get some help and direction to make my dreams a reality.

I spent a bit of time looking at the different forums I could join before finally deciding to go with Tricornejock.com on October 25, 2011.   This was the easiest forum to navigate and not being very computer savvy I felt comfortable with this sight.   Everyone there was very friendly and helpful.  I was soon asked to be a moderator and then on to an Administrator and Board Founder.  During this time I fell in love with the Medieval theme.  The stech style.  I was always looking for the old sets anywhere I could find them.  My collection of Medieval sets has become my largest and my favorite.  So now with three main themes in my collection that is mostly what you will see here; although I do have a few smaller collections in additional themes which you will see as well.

Our oldest daughter, Flechia (Kids at Play) also joined in the fun by customizing and making her own stories and scenes; some of which I will share with you here.  Her main theme is Fairies.  We had a lot of fun making things together and using our imaginations to create some really neat projects.  It was a great mother/daughter bonding time.

It was a very sad day when the forum closed on July 24, 2017.   I will never forget the valuable things I learned there that have helped me achieve my dreams of building Playmobil dioramas.   A BIG thank you goes to TJ for his years of dedication to keep the forum running.   The pictures you will see on this blog are a result of the things I learned from the excellent work and tutorials that were given on Tricornejock.com.

So with no forum to showcase my creations, I decided to open my own blog to be able to continue to share my work with the Playmobil world.   I hope you enjoy what you see and read here and may it be a help and encouragement to you to go beyond what you thought was possible.

Sincerely,
Lori   (ToysR4grownups)
