Autumn Time in Fairyland

My daughter and I came up with an idea of exploring the world of fairies through each season of the year.    This project took us a whole year to complete.  It involves lots of customs, creativity and of course a healthy dose of imagination.   Flechia (Kids at Play) did most of the customs and I took most of the pictures, did the photo editing and wrote the narrative story lines.    This project was a lot of fun for both of us and we would like to share it with you.   So sit back and enjoy a peek into the magical world of fairies.

Chapter One: Bringing In the Harvest

The end of summer and the first of fall is one of the busiest times of the year for fairies and elves alike. It is the time for reaping the harvest. Everyone knows winter will soon be here and all the food and supplies must be brought in so there is enough to get through the long days of cold. There are crab apples to be picked,

blackberries to be brought in,

sweet pea blossoms to be used as slippers during the cold

and sweet pea seeds gathered to be eaten.

The fairies of the field collect the red clover buds

and the children make many trips filling up acorn bowls of milk from the milkweed plant.

The adults start gathering the fluffy milkweed seeds for insulation and mattress stuffing.

Some of the men do the heavier work like gathering a large supply of walnuts. It takes two to lift one of these things.

Then there are the “Fuzzy Leaves”, as they are called by fairies. They make excellent carpets. Toadstool is getting a new one for his room. Unfortunately he can’t fly so he has to walk all the way home with his.
